Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting
Volvo drivers are enthralled by the remote control capabilities of their key fob. Using a smartphone app, they can lock and unlock the car or start the engine and even locate the vehicle.
First, place the fob on a clean work surface with the logo facing upward. Find the button to release it. Place a coin in between the fob cover and the fob, then slowly pull it up.
Locking the Doors
Volvo's remote keys can unlock the tailgate, doors, and fuel filler flap of your car with the touch of a button. They can also switch on the ignition, set the alarm, and operate your sunroof, if it's equipped. With these features you'll never look for your keys or lock yourself out of your car.
If you're a new Volvo model from our dealership, then you may not be aware of its key fob hidden features. You can make use of the manual lock/unlock feature if your key fob battery goes out.
The key fob should be held with the Volvo logo facing upwards to unlock or lock the manual lock. Find the black button that is located near the edges of the body of your key fob, and gently press it to unlock a cover that hides a manual key blade. You'll need a flathead screwdriver or coin to flip the cover counterclockwise, ensuring that the arrow is aligned with "open."
Starting the Engine
Modern Volvo key fobs provide an ease of use and function that is unmatched by traditional manual keys. But, just like any other battery-powered electronic device, a key fob can lose its charge or stop working over time. If you notice that your key fob isn't as responsive when you press the lock or unlock button, it may be time to replace its battery.
You can activate this feature with the key fob if the vehicle has a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The car will then cool or heat to the same setting it was at while parked. It can run for up to 15 minutes.
Remove the cover on the back of the key fob using your fingernail. Under the cover and on a diagonal at the edge of the body, you'll find an unidentified button. Slide it down and to the right. The cover will break loose, and then slide off revealing the manual blade! If you still can't locate the button, look around the newly revealed manual key access to determine if there is a hidden slot or lever.
Close the Windows
One of the lesser-known features that is not visible on Volvo key fobs is that you are able to lower all windows at once with them. This is a fantastic feature to have when trying to squeeze into a tight parking space, or just when you need some fresh air in the cabin while driving.
To unlock the windows, press and hold the unlock button on your Volvo remote for four seconds. This will lower the windows as well as the sunroof, should you have one. Then, when you're done with your car you can shut the doors by pressing the lock button once more for four seconds.

You can also use your key fob to turn on your car's panic alarm. It will emit an intense, enthralling roar that could frighten away thieves and allow you to return home safely after a long night out. This feature is great should you reside in an area that is dangerous, or want to ensure the safety of your family when you are away from home.
Opening the Tailgate
The key fob of Volvo is loaded with useful features. They are great when you're busy with groceries or helping your kids pack their sports gear after a workout.
For instance, if you have the Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and adjustable height (if equipped) You can open it by using the key fob. You can open the liftgate by pressing the button, and then close it with the same button.
Utilize the key fob when you are ready to start the vehicle. (Don't be concerned if your battery dies or if your vehicle isn't starting because it also has a mechanical key slot). This is just one of many helpful tips for your new Volvo.

Turning off the Alarm
Modern key fobs are more practical than a mechanical car key. They aren't always working perfectly and batteries can be dead. It is possible to program your key fob at home if you are in a rush or don't have time visit the store.
Find a clean work surface and lay out your key fob, battery as well as any additional keys. Place the key fob with the Volvo logo facing up and then locate a tiny black button at the bottom left of the fob. Slide it downwards and to the right. The cover will fall off, revealing the key blade's mechanical mechanism beneath.
The button to unlock the key fob twice quickly, and you should be able open all doors and the tailgate. By pressing the lock button for two minutes, you are able to close the windows and shut the sunroof when they're fitted. Reconnect the battery and the alarm should stop.
